The AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour is scheduled to make a stop at the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Senior Nutrition Site in Shawnee on June 3, 2010 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The site is located at 2345 N. Gordon Cooper Drive. This event is part of AARP Oklahoma’s on-going diversity project with Oklahoma Indians.
The following screenings on the tour will be performed at no charge by certified health screeners:
· Total Cholesterol Levels
· Blood Pressure
· Bone Density
· Glucose Levels
· Waist Circumference
· Body Mass Index
There is no appointment necessary to visit the AARP/Walgreens Wellness bus, and each person who participates will receive a free one-year membership in AARP – the largest senior organization in the world.
In addition, AARP Oklahoma volunteers will be on hand to register Indians to vote in the upcoming Oklahoma elections and also will be handing out materials detailing how the new health reform pertains to Native Americans.
Nominations are currently being accepted for AARP Oklahoma’s 2010 Indian Elder Honors, a program recognizing 50 Oklahoma Indian Elders for their contributions to their tribe, community or state.
