Grab the family and enjoy some of the best barbecue in the region at the Second Annual FireLake BBQ Contest on March 30.
More than 35 competitors will compete for $5,000 in cash prizes and guests can sample numerous recipes including beef brisket, chicken and pork. Competitors from Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and Arkansas will battle for the top prize. Taster kits are $8.
Those who purchase a taster kit will get to sample the food and have a say in who goes home with the People’s Choice award.
“Families will be able to enjoy numerous activities during this BBQ competition,” said Jason Boyce, FireLake Grocery. “In addition to sampling great food, bowling, mini-putt and softball are all within walking distance.”
Nearly 40 judges from the Kansas City Barbecue Society will be conducting their own tasting to determine who will earn the title of Grand Champion. As part of the day’s activities a softball tournament, mini-putt and bowling will be available for families to enjoy.
All proceeds from the event will help fund events for the Shawnee Area Salvation Army.
