For the past three weeks I have been involved in a combined effort on the part of the Department of Veterans Affairs and the other four tribes in Kansas to reach out to all Native American veterans living in the state. I, along with Citizen Potawatomi Nation’s partners, want to make them aware of what benefits are available to them and how they can obtain that care and services.
Don’t rely on old information or what your buddy told you. Get the facts! Come to the Health Fair and talk to the professionals. I plan to participate in the Health Fair along with the staff from the CPN Senior Support Network in Rossville and my brother, Lyman Boursaw, who is the manager of the CPN housing complex in Rossville. The tribe is also donating $500 of its own towards the expenses of the health fair.
I have also spoken to the CPN nurses who work with our Senior Support Network in Rossville, and they are offering transportation to CPN veterans in the Topeka area who wish to attend the health fair. To take advantage of this, please call the staff at Rossville at 785-584-6171 no later than 12:00 p.m. on September 4.
Below is a flyer provided by the Veterans Administration which contains the details regarding the upcoming Health Fair. The event will be held in the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Casino & Hotel Resort in Mayetta, KS. Directions from Topeka: North on US-75 to 150 Road, exit and then turn left.
