The Native American Journalists Association is dedicated to supporting Native American journalism and held their annual awards ceremony for excellence in reporting in Indian Country. In the category of tribal publications with more than 10,000 readers, Citizen Potawatomi Nation’s tribal newspaper the Hownikan brought home four awards. More than 700 awards entries were received.
The Hownikan brought home the following awards:
• Best Feature Photo, Bo Apitz, third place
• Best Feature Photo, Bo Apitz, first place
• Best Layout, first place
• General Excellence, third place
