Citizen Potawatomi Nation’s Grand Casino Hotel & Resort’s Security Training Department hosted a two-day Security Training Academy May 17-18, 2023, a routine course provided to ensure that security officers employed throughout the Nation’s gaming enterprises are properly trained to handle any emergency situation that may arise.
Trainings are offered at least twice a month, with long-time CPN employees presenting on security protocols, CPR/AED, basic First Aid, de-escalation and crisis intervention, and more.
This month’s training included a special presentation from CPN House of Hope’s Prevention Specialist Kayla Woody.
Woody spoke about the services House of Hope offers as well as the topics of domestic violence, sexual violence and stalking. She shared statistics, definitions and red flag behaviors for each.
Domestic violence affects nearly 40% of Oklahomans, and Woody emphasized that these types of violence are all connected.
“We discussed what signs to pay attention to with casino patrons and employees to better assist them with safety and security,” Woody said.
Grand Casino Hotel & Resort Security Special Operations Coordinator Tommy Bowen reported that “the class was very impressed with Woody and her presentation. She was very passionate about explaining her job and what the House of Hope has to offer the community,” and that the information she shared “is good information for our security officers to obtain.”
“We do our best to give our officers the most up-to-date training available,” said Bowen.
He encourages other departments to train their employees on the topics of domestic and sexual violence.
