From July 29 to Aug. 5, the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation in Mayetta, Kansas, welcomes Potawatomi from across North America for the Gathering of Potawatomi Nations. This is the 25th celebration, and the theme is Nishnabek Ntewmen or Who We Are. The language and youth conferences are July 30-31 at the Prairie Band Casino & Resort followed by four days of activities, a round dance and two traditional powwows at the Prairie Peoples Park.
Each summer, the memorable event brings all Potawatomi tribes together as part of the collective Nishinabe people. The festivities rotate around North America between the nine Potawatomi tribes, and each of them is unique.
